"No, more likely a saint." [Oktavia whispered back] "She is actually only a minor noble. But she is as kind as Gretchen and Verena, as I have seen." After a few hours, they finally reached their desination. It was a lovely ocean bay with a few houses including a simple church not far from the shore.] "Well, here we are." Ophellia said, looking tense for some reason "It's a sfe little community, and the people wont judge you if they see youre a mermaid." "It is nice... which house are we staying that?" Oktavia looked over at Ophelia's nervois expression "What is wrong?" "See, theres somethin I should tell ya about this place. I actually_" And answer was given by the red haired little girl who was picking flowers noticing them and running over with a cheer "Big sister! Big sister is here!!" Ophelia smiled and hugged her "Hi there, Peach! Its so good to see you!" "I missed you big sister!" "Ophelia, is that you?" said the kind looking peasant woman who followed the child "You have returned!" "Hey Ma!" [Oktavia blinked] "Wait. Do you mean this..." "Yeah. This is my little sister and my mother, and this is my childhood home."
[Oktavia said softly, and looked around the place.]
- That's your sister? She's so cute, Ophelia!
[Kyle, in the meanwhile, had introduced himself to Ophelia's mother as "Lord Kyle, a noble of the Blue Kingdom" and had simply handed her a gold coin with a blinding smile.]
...But...But sir, this is much too much...
[Ophelia's mother said, almost stammering. Kyle grinned at her, then.]
- No, no, no - Your beautiful daughter there saved my life, you see, and I'm very grateful, to say the least! And I know it's going to be a bother, having to make room for all of us to stay here...
Oktavia cringed at that and tried to cover her tail more but it just resulted in shifting ehr cape back, revealing more of her scales and fins. But Peach wasn't afraid, she just giggled and touched the fish tail curiously] "It's so pretty! You're pretty, miss!" [Ophelia sighed and patted Oktavia's shoulder reasuredly] "Oktavia suddenly turned into a mermaid during a royal ball and it kinda freaked everyone out, so she needs to stay at a safe place for the time being. I was thinking, here would be good..." "But of course she is welcome here, dear daughter." her mother smiled "We are always happy to have guests." [Oktavia gave a sigh of relief at that. They got into the wagon and rode it over to the church] "Ah, how is your apprenticeship coming, Ophelia?" "It's goin pretty good! Keepin me busy, applyin my skills, things are interetin and all. Did you receive the latest earnings I sent over?" [Oktavia gave Ophelia a dubious look. Apprently Ophelia's mother had no idea her proffesion was actually that of a wanted thief.] "well here we are. home sweet home" "This church?" "yeah, it's my family's church. me dad's a priest." [well that was ironic, Oktavia thought as Ophelia hoisted her up. then again, the cross she always wore and the occasional prayer did hint she was of the church. a thin, bearded man wearing priest garbs came out, hobbling on a cane, apaprently he had been injured in the past] "Ophelia.. my darling daughter. Welcome back. Ah, you have grown..." "Hey Pa! How you doing?" Despite her tough exterior, her genuine happiness shone at seeing her family again
[And then, he turned toward Mistress Lita with a smile.]
- Mistress Lita! I'm so glad you meet you here. Ophelia isn't causing you too much trouble, right?
...No, no, she's doing fine, and she's getting to be pretty good with her herbals and the treatment of injuries, nowadays.
[Mistress Lita said with a smile. She'd promised Ophelia that she'd keep up the ruse, after all - And Ophelia actually had gotten pretty good with the basic herbals and treatment of small injuries, since the people in her band of thieves were getting hurt or sick all time, and Lita had made sure she knew the basics.]
...Ahem, I still wouldn't want her to do midwife duty all by herself, though...
[Aand that was when Ophelia's mother grabbed her husband's arm, and started to gabble about a real honest to goodness noble visiting, showing him the gold coin. Ophelia's father's eyes widened as he saw the coin, and they widened even more as Kyle came walking up to the house and nodded to him.]
- So you are Miss Ophelia's father, good Pastor?
[Kyle said with a bright smile, and gave Ophelia's father a small nod. Her father stared back, looking like some kind of deer for a moment.]
...Did I tell you your beautiful daughter just saved my life out there in the dark woods?
[Ophelia and Oktavia exchaanged glaances and rolled their eyes. ] "Lets leave them too it" Ophelai brought her over to the tiny guest room where she would staying. The redhead herself would be sharing a bed with her little sister, just like they used to.] " ...herbalist and midwife, my fins!" Oktavia muttered as soon as it was just the two again "I assume your family has no idea about your true proffesion?" [Opehlia rolled her eyes and roughly dropped her onto the bed as payback for that remark] "So. Now that you're here , don't expect this lifestyle to be like your cushy noblility life! There's no servants to wait on ya, so you gotta hafta do things yourself and maybe help out around the house, even if you are a guest! Do ya even know how to do those kinds of tasks!" "I know, I know!" [Oktavia straightened up and rubbed her back] "And. Well, I do know how to sow and embroider. I also know how to groom and prepare a horse, and how to clean metal.." [All right, so the later two was basic squire skills she picked up as opposed to a mandatory skill for lady that was the first"
[Ophelia snickered at that, and put Oktavia's bags in the small closet of the guest room.]
...Well, Mistress Lita is right, actually - I'm pretty sure I'm doing OK stuff with basic herbals and cold medinines and washing and binding minor wounds and stuff like that by now, but real midwifery is another thing entirely, brrr...
[Oktavia looked at her, and raised her eyebrows.]
...Ohhh - So you actually know how to do all those things? I mean, I do know how to bind wounds and some basic massages, because I had to learn how to do those as a squire, but otherwise...
[Ophelia grinned at Oktavia, then, and poked at her scaled cheek.]
- Why, you want lessons? Hmmm... I'm not at all sure I'm good enough to actually teach people yet, but I can ask Mistress Lita if you can come with us while we go make herbals and such, if ya want, ha ha ha!
[Oktavia looked at her fish tail, then, and sighed a bit.]
...Oh, I'd love to do that - But it'll be rather hard to gather herbs while I'm still a mermaid, I'm afraid...
[And then, she blinked as an idea struck her.]
- But wait - Do any herbs grow in the sea, so to speak?
[Oktavia blinked, then.]
...Huh, that's a good question! I do know that you're supposed to use different kinds of seaweed in some potions, but...
[Ophelia's parents, in the meanwhile, had opened up one of the bigger guestrooms (which were almost never used) for "Lord Kyle"'s use, and Ophelia's mother was running around the room now, dusting things off.]
...I'm so sorry we don't have any new blankets or sheets, sir...
- Oh, no, that's fine, please, really!
[Kyle said with a smile. Oh, he missed Michelle so much, though, especially while he was pretending to be just an ordinary noble like this - They'd had so much fun, bumping into each other in the oddest of places...]
" sure there are!" ( ophelia nodded ) " why, ya thinkin of diving down and gettin some?" " perhaps"
[Later in the day, Oktavia had finished up helping Ophelia and her family with chores, well as much as she could to her ability anyway. Washing dishes wasnt too difficult she found so far. Afterwards, Ophelia took her and little Peach doewn to the shore. The two teen girls sat together at small dock, watching Peach play among the tide pools nearby. Oktavia sighed, this time more in contentment as she felt the waves lapping over her fins. Despite her sitatuion, she found she felt safe and comfortable and relaxed. ".. I have always enjoyed going to the seashore" She suddenly said "It was fairly often since the Blue kingdom was right near the sea. But, I have always felt at home, a connection to it..." "Well of course. youre half fish after all!" Ophelia said, half joking. The mermaid stuck out her lip in pout, but she shrugged "I suppose, it is true..." Using her fish tail she flicked water at Ophelia "hey!" Oktavia giggled then slid herself off the dock and into the water, feeling drawn to it.
[Down, down, down...Oktavia turned around under the waves, giggling. She could even feel some far away sea currents, moving across the ocean...]
[Aand that was when a shining something caught her eye!]
[Oktavia dove down to the bottom of the ocean, which wasn't deep at all, since they were so close to the shore. She picked up the shining thing, and turned it around in her hands. What was a pretty goblet like this doing at the bottom of the sea, anyway? It almost looked like it might be real gold or something, glittering in the light.]
[And then, she paused. Considering all the ships that had sank near here, some of them filled to the brim with very expensive stuff, according to what she'd heard...]
( oktavia continued grazing the sandy bottom, picking out some more bits of treasure here and there, before seeing the shape of the ruins of a sunken ship. This must be one of those ships! Judging by the current she sensed, it must have been sunk by the increased force brought on by a storm. Oktavia looked back up at the surface , the sunlight glimmering through. This was an incredible moment. She found she could breath easily in the water, her vision and hearing not inhibited at all. She felt so light in the water. After some more moments of enjoying herself, oktavia took the cup and some coins and swam back up the surface to show ophelia)
( ophelia shrugged) " oh well. It probably doesn't matter. Where did ya find it?" " at the bottom of the ocean. It was among other lost treasures" ( Oktavia responded) " i actually found a sunken ship as well." " cool!", " perhaps i can help bring up the treasures. I am sure they can be beneficial to your family and the villaige. " " sounds like a good idea. You don't have to bring them all up by yourself though. You can show us the exact spot where you found it and we can follow by boat." " that is a good plan." ( oktavia looked at the emblem Again) " however, if any of the treasures are special heirlooms, we should try to return them to their rightful owner." ( she smirked at ophelia) i remember when my heirlooms were missing last)
...All right, all right! I wouldn't mind giving them back, in that case - Well, as long as the original owners pay us a finder's fee, that is!
[Oktavia sighed, then, but then she snickered, too.]
- Well, all right, that's fair, I suppose - Since the original owners would never had gotten it back if it wasn't for us in that case anyway, and all.
[They sat on by the seaside for about half and hour more, and then walked home, Ophelia carrying Oktavia in her arms. Oktavia turned the goblet around in her hands again, wondering where the heck she had seen something like the symbol on it before.]
[Oktavia tilted her head, then, wondering if she should ask Prince Kyle if he knew anything about the symbol on the goblet. She didn't want to tell him anything about the treasure from the sunken ship nearby, though - Well, not without thinking things through and talking over the consequences with Ophelia and co, that is.]
[She didn't want to cause Ophelia or Ophelia's village any trouble, after all, and who knew what would happen if anybody really powerful got wind that there was a sunken ship which was probably filled with treasure right nearby the shore...]
...Hey, Ophelia! Let's keep the ship thing a secret until we figure out the best thing to do, all right?
- I wasn't plannin' on telling Handsome and Blue-haired anything about it, if that's what you were worried about...
[Ophelia laughed. Oktavia nodded at that, and then she went to the little guest room she was staying in, and carefully copied over the symbol on the goblet on a piece of paper. She then slowly went over to the window, and made a half curtsy in Kyle's direction, who was practicing his swordwork outside.]
...Your High - Lord Kyle! May I have your ear, if that is all right?
[Kyle immediately sheathed his sword, and came over to the window with a bright smile.]
- Of course you may, Lady Oktavia! What is it?
[Oktavia showed him the symbol she'd copied on the paper.]
...Do you have any idea what this symbol is, Lord Kyle?
[Kyle looked at the symbol for a moment, and then, his brow furreled.]
- That's...Hmmm. That looks awfully like a really old version of the Gold Kingdom's private family crest, actually, now that I think about it...

[Oktavia stared at the symbol she'd drawn on the paper again.]
...Ohhh. I didn't know that - Thank you, Lord Kyle!
[Kyle, in the meanwhile, was tilting his head.]
It's not an emblem that's used very often anymore, I think. The last time anybody officially used it was when the Queen Clara of the Gold Kingdom married her third and last husband -
[And then, he grimanced.]
...Who was also the father of You Know Who, as I just recalled. Gaah...
[Oktavia's mouth dropped open, then.]
- Queen Clara's third husband - Oh! I mean, I'd heard stories about the Gold Queen marrying her Royal Servant but, um...
[Kyle sighed, then.]
- Technically, Rodry whateverhisnamewas did have a title, since you can't serve Royalty directly without one, but he only was a very minor noble. The Gold Kingdom's Royal Council was aghast at the very notion of the Queen marrying her Royal Servant, from what I heard, but, um -
[Oktavia narrowed her eyes. Wait, so did that mean the late Queen Clara was pregnant already when she got married to her servant-husband? Good grief!]
...Well, anyway, after a while, the Council gave in. It helped that Queen Clara already had two Princes and a Princess with her properly high-ranking late husbands, of course.
So the Queen did manage to get officially married, but the Council wouldn't even give Rodry the title of Prince Consort, so Queen Clara decided to use her family's private crest in the ceremonies instead.
[Kyle sighed a bit, then.]
...You know, I do wonder what would have happened if all the heirs besides You Know Who hadn't just died in that shipwreck like that, I really do...
