[flashback]

a frail blind girl, her face blank with sadness, drifts by the shore, singingin. She was once a proud, tyranical princess, but things suddenly went horribly wrong an revolution arose. She was here left, as her loyal servant, her identical twin brother, chose to disguise himself and take her place at the execution, allowing her to escape. Her beloved brother, the only one who truly liked her, how could she take advantage of him like that and not consider his feelings? And now, he was gone. In fact, regretted all the horrible things she had done. She had tken up refuge at a church nearby, no one knowing her tre identity, but she was already hollow.
now a idea came to her, a game her brother once showed her. By writing a wish into a bottle and tossing it to see at a certain moment, the wish would come true, so that was what she was now doing.
"..I wish, that we could be revbirn together as twins again oneday, that we could have another chance..." She fell to her knees , wave drifteing against her waist, and she sobbed "Im sorry!! I am so sorry! Lenny!!"

[And that was when there was a cough behind her.]

...Hello, Miss!

[A very strange but cute critter is looking at her, it's head tilted a bit...]

[Oooooh - So much potential!]

[she looks up at it through her tears]
"D-did you just speak?"

...Why yes, I did!

[He smiled up at her, thinking.]

I'm called Kyubey, and I've been watching you for a bit...

[He then looked at the bottles bobbing in the water, and pasted a fake sad expression on his face.]

You must have lost somebody important to you, right?

[she looked away sadly]
"My dear twin brother is gne...and it's all my fault..]

Oh, Miss - Why would you think it's all your fault?

[Kyubey smiles up at her, ozzing fake sympathy.]

Bad things happen all the time, but it's not any one person's fault, most of the time, I don't think...

[she shook her head again[ "no, it was. because the attack on our home was in hatered towards me. And then, he disguised himself as me, and took my place for death...

[Kyubey smiled up at her, then, his scarlet eyes blinking.]

...Oh, that's really too bad...

[He then tilted his head.]

- But you know, Miss? I think this must be your lucky day, in that case.

Because, you see - I can grant almost any Wish you want, if you make a Contract with me and become a Magical Girl!

[she looks back at hi, surprised] "W-what do you mean..?"

- My job, you see, is to find girls who have the potential to be Magical Girls, or Puella Magi as some people call them.

[Kyubey hopped up at her.]

People who become Puella Magi are fated to fight Witches. By Witches I mean very scary monsters, by the way - I'm not talking about female human magic users, here just in case you were wondering...

- But it's a worthwhile job, I assure you.

[And then he looks up at her, again - Would anybody doubt that cute face?]

...And yes, I meant the part about granting Wishes.

- I can grant almost any Wish you can speak of, Young Miss - And that's the truth and nothing but the truth, I promise!

...So what do you say, eh?

[she continued staring. She does know monster exist, having met one as a young child, and Ldy Elluka claimed to use magic.
But, this wish]
"...I wish to be with my twin broter again, alive and happy..

[Kyubey stared at her for a moment, then, and sweatdropped as he read her energy potentials.]

...You did have to choose one of the very few Wishes I can't grant that easily, did you?

[He sighed.]

- You don't have enough potential energy to grant that Wish, I'm afraid.

I mean, it'll be easy enough to make a replica of your brother, or some kind of living doll, but actually getting your brother back from the dead is...

[And then he blinked. No, wait...]

- You wish to be with your twin brother again, alive and happy?

[Hmmmm.]

[The girl had mentioned something about being reborn, when he first found her, now that he thought about it...]

["..I thought as much.." [she ligt and looked away, that glimmer of hope gone ] "Yes. That is what I wish.. even if it is impossible...

...It may not be, actually!

[Kyubey grinned at her.]

Try remembering what you were saying when I first found you.

[Kyubey is not really allowed to make suggestions about Wishes, but that doesn't stop him from trying to give hints when the situation seems to call for it, like now.]

"the wish I made, upon the bottle..." she stares out at sea "that we could be reborn together as twins again someday, and have another chance..

...Oh, that Wish is fine!

[Whatever this "being reborn" thing actually meant. Oh, he'd been on the Earth long enough to realize that sometimes, this "reincarnation" thing actually seemed to happen, buuut.]

- So will you make a Contract with me, Young Miss?

[Kyubey smiled up at her.]

Oh, and I'll also appreciate it if you told me your name - It wouldn't do to get my Contractees all mixed up with each other, after all!

[She nods sititng up sharply] "Yes.. I will accept it! I will do anything! ...Rin. My name is Rin."

[Kyubey grinned at that, and pointed a paw at her.]

- Done!

[The magical energies started to swirl around Rin, then - And a Soul Gem floated out of her chest, and up into the air.]

...Very well, Rin - That thing is called a Soul Gem, and you're going to need it to function as a Puella Magi from now on -

[Or function at all, since her spirit has been downloaded into the thing, now, but Kyubey is not going to mention that part unless something forces him to, nope. Humans and former humans tended to have such strange reactions to that particular revelation, after all...]

- So don't lose it or anything, all right?

[Kyubey wonders how her Wish is going to interact with the going Witch thing. Could Witches be reborn at all? Hmmm...Maybe the Wish would make sure that she just died when the time came, instead of going Witch...]

[Which would be a shame, from a energy gathering standpoint, but it would be interesting to see how things worked out, Kyubey did have to admit.]

[And so he smiles up at her again.]

...You should also be able to use your powers as a Magical Girl now, I think.

- Say, why don't you try transforming or something? Almost all you girls just love doing that, it seems...

[Rin holds the jewel closely. she did feel some sort of power...]
"Transform? I do not understand" she tiilted her head "Transforms into what?"

- Why, into your Puella Magi form, of course!

[Kyubey laughs.]

Most of you Magical Girls have special magical costumes and stuff you wear when you fight, and you sort of tend to look a bit different, when you do that, too - It's sort of a tradition, I think!

"Hm... all right, I shall try."
[So se focuses. And she feels a rush of energy , she is flowing in a space, it seems her clothes disappear for a second, then another outsfit appears on her, decent enough length, and actually very pretty, and her favorite color..]
"I, this worked..." [she shook her head[ "I do not deserve to wear somethign this pretty anymore..

[Kyubey looked up at her, and blinked again.]

- Well, of course it did!

[And then he smiled again.]

...And I'm sure your brother wouldn't want you to wear drab clothes all the time if you didn't have to, Rin!

[she shook her head[ "It is part of my penance. I did used to be very wealthy, until, that terrile event, which was my fault..

[And Kyubey nodded, though he didn't really get this "penance" thing some humans were so fond of at all, to be frank.]

...Well, you can try changing your Puella Magi outfit into something else, if you want, but I think your current one if fine, just in case you're wondering.

[And then he turned toward the town nearby, pointing at one of the bigger buildings with his paw.]

- But not right now, please - I don't think we're going to have time to adjust your uniform for the moment, you see.

I'm pretty sure there's a Witch Barrier someplace over there, even if I can't really be sure exactly where it is...

And it really does have to be dealt with as fast as possible - People will keep dying or being hurt unless it is, and you don't want any of the other Puella Magi to come and stick their noses in where they're not wanted, right?

[And then he smiled up at her, his red eyes glinting.]

- So now, it's time to fight!

...Are you ready to do your duty, Puella Magi Rin?

[she rubs her tears away and staund up, nodding]
"Y-yes, I am... I made a promise. That I would become a better person now, and help people!"
